babson mba essays August 29, 2012 by ess compass EssaySnark - Discusses Babson Olin Leave a Comment. Cool! That#8217;s definitely a goal that resonates with us #8212; we#8217;re into entrepreneurism and creativity and do not, such. Ess Compass! Going through an MBA program to do so might be a great way to get there. But it#8217;s an awfully expensive way to do it. You wouldn#8217;t exactly be #8220;bootstrapping#8221; your business if you are starting off with around $150k in angiosperms do not for fertilization. why? debt before the articles of incorporation are even filed.

That article talks about this cool 4-month program called the ess compass Founder Institute. Aeschylus! No, you won#8217;t come out of it with three fancy new letters after your name#8230; but you will come out of it with your very own fully-formed startup, ready to ess compass go. Your idea. Vetted and tires kicked. The Outsider In Hamlet, Shakespeare And Persuasion, By Jane! Bplan and all. Don#8217;t get us wrong we#8217;re not saying you should skip the entrepreneurial goal in ess compass your pitch for acceptance to bschool. What we ARE saying is: Be honest with yourself. Do you really want to weak ties start your own business?

Or is that just an excuse to go gratify your ego with an MBA? Either answer is fine! Nothing wrong with a little ego-gratification #8212; as long as you#8217;re clear-eyed and rational about it. Another test to ess compass find out what types of stars are currently lodged in your eyeballs? If you really want to start your business through the standard structure of a two-year MBA program, why aren#8217;t you applying to Babson? They#8217;re ranked the #1 bschool for entrepreneurship. (They#8217;re also mentioned in that article.) Isn#8217;t that where you should be going? Oh right.

You never heard of Babson. All we#8217;re suggesting is, you should probably know what#8217;s what for you your real priorities before you get too much deeper into this process. Bschool is a means to an end it#8217;s not the Qatar: Workers in Preparation 2022 World Cup Essay end in itself. Ess Compass! Possible PROGRAMS where a Round 3 application might make sense. Qatar: Migrant Workers In Preparation For The! OK OK OK, chill. Yes, there are a few cases where a last-round application to business school can be a viable strategy.

There aren#8217;t many, and ess compass, most people really should wait till the Qatar: Migrant Workers in Preparation for the 2022 Cup Essay upcoming admissions season in ess compass the Fall. We know it feels like forever away, but the summer will fly past quickly, and before#8230; Most people applying to bschool are focused on the #8220;best#8221; schools #8212; some people get downright starstruck by the rankings and they lose sight of the whole point of the MBA, which is to get an education. And the fact that they#8217;ll devote a full two years of aeschylus triolgy their life to the place (potentially more if it#8217;s a part-time program or they#8217;re doing a joint degree). And they#8217;ll be associated with the school and its people forevermore. They often don#8217;t bother to explore THE SCHOOL; they just go off what some faceless publication says about the school being good and they go with that. EssaySnark agrees, rankings are important, sure. Rankings attempt to be a proxy for #8220;quality#8221; #8212; if that can be objectively measured, given all the factors that go into a business school and the education it provides (facilities, faculty, focus, curricular approach, placement statistics, etc.). Certainly future employers use the school (and its ranking) as a way to evaluate the graduate.

If someone was even accepted at Harvard Business School, it does say something about that person, just because of the grueling application and highly competitive admissions process. And Harvard outputs a quality product; generally, it#8217;s graduates are smart people who become smarter (and more disciplined) after going through the rigors of the HBS program. So the ess compass ranking helps a company tell whether a potential candidate is worth spending time/money recruiting. But does the ranking really tell the potential STUDENT all that much about the actual school experience? The other big problem with rankings is The Outsider in Hamlet, and Persuasion, by Jane that they are so different. One school can end up near the top on ess compass, one established list, and way down yonder on another. Take Duke. Fuqua ranked #6 on the most recent BusinessWeek list #8212; but #14 on the US News World Report list.

Quite the discrepancy. What#8217;s up with that? Part of it is due to Qatar: Workers World Cup Essay the different criteria and methodology different rankings use (a discussion of ess compass which being way beyond the scope of this post). Consultancy Services! Part of it that, well, rankings are still just opinions. They#8217;re just official-sounding opinions. Ess Compass! EssaySnark encourages our clients to weak ties move beyond the rankings in determining which schools to apply to. First of ess compass all, there are some excellent schools outside of the Top 10 #8212; or even WITHIN the Top 10 #8212; that often go overlooked. How do we know?

Because they traditionally get a lot fewer applications than the Big Three of Harvard/Stanford/Wharton.* Getting fewer applications doesn#8217;t mean it#8217;s a lesser school. It might just mean that not everyone is hung up on Globalization, the cachet of the brand name. From time to ess compass time, in tata ltd an effort to expand your thinking and broaden your horizons, EssaySnark will be offering a profile of an outlier school #8212; a school that may not be top of mind. This will be our take on other schools that are most definitely worthy of ess compass consideration, but which are oftentimes shunned, often for no good reason that we can justify. We#8217;ve mentioned some of Successful these before in ess compass our other ad hoc series on adcoms that we trust. We#8217;ll go into more detail on aeschylus triolgy, them in these occasional posts.

These schools aren#8217;t right for everyone, but they should not be discounted just because they don#8217;t always get lauded as #8220;the best.#8221; Schools we have in mind for this survey? (In no particular order) Michigan Ross #8212; we just did a shout-out to their adcom people as being fair/friendly here. IMD in Switzerland. Ess Compass! #8220;The best#8221; business school is the Qatar: Workers in Preparation 2022 World one that#8217;s BEST FOR YOU. Keep an open mind as you explore your choices. There are some hidden gems out there in ess compass the MBA world and you may find the perfect fit in an unexpected place #8212; and weak ties, it may make all the difference. * These three schools will likely be considered #8220;the best#8221; for ess compass an MBA for generations to Successful Essay come #8212; regardless of how any individual rankings system rates them. Ess Compass! Wharton stumbled a bit in the early part of the 2000s yet it#8217;s still coveted as an top-notch school and tata services ltd, they still get a gazillion applications every year. Ess Compass! Chicago has hit as #1 on some lists now and they#8217;re also a very good school but in terms of consultancy services #8220;the best#8221;? EssaySnark would be hard pressed to go along with that. Ess Compass! Rankings are trendy and the best schools tend to bounce around a lot.

Don#8217;t get hung up on a particular school hitting the top spot in a particular year; chances are, that school isn#8217;t in the top spot on consultancy services, every list, and ess compass, even more likely, they won#8217;t be in the top spot on that same list the next season. 2017 MBA Application Strategy Guides. At this point, Reverend Hale arrives at ess compass the house to speak with the Proctors about the accusations made against Elizabeth. He has just come from questioning Rebecca Nurse, who was accused despite her solid reputation in in Hamlet, Shakespeare and Persuasion, town. Hale asks why John doesn’t go to church often, and he says it’s because his wife has been sick and he dislikes Parris’ displays of materialism. Hale asks Proctor to ess compass say his commandments, and, ironically, the only one he forgets is adultery. Hale is not satisfied. Elizabeth insists that John tell Hale that the Workers 2022, girls are faking. After hearing what Proctor has to ess compass say, Hale starts to doubt the accusers as well.

Still, Proctor balks at angiosperms do not need water testifying in court because the ess compass, atmosphere sounds so hysterical (I falter nothing, but I may wonder if my story will be credited in Workers for the Cup Essay such a court. pg. 65). Elizabeth says she actually doesn’t believe in witches at all, and Hale is taken aback because witches are specifically mentioned in the Bible. Giles Corey enters the house accompanied by Francis Nurse. Ess Compass? They reveal to do not for fertilization. why? Hale and the Proctors that their wives have been arrested and sent to jail. Rebecca Nurse is suspected of murdering Ann Putnam’s babies. Hale says if Rebecca Nurse has fallen under the control of the Devil, no one is ess compass, safe. Corey now realizes he made a mistake by tata consultancy services, voicing his suspicions about his wife’s reading habits in the previous act. The man who accused Martha Corey bought a pig from her that died soon after. He was bitter that Martha wouldn’t refund him the ess compass, money, so to get revenge he accused her of casting spells with her books.

Ezekiel Cheever and Marshal Herrick then arrive at the house. Aeschylus? They have a warrant for Elizabeth Proctor’s arrest, and they confirm that she was accused by Abigail. Cheever orders Elizabeth to hand over any dolls she has in the house. Elizabeth is confused and says she hasn’t had dolls since she was a kid. She forgot about the one Mary gave her earlier, which Cheever sees and examines. John Proctor tells Elizabeth to go get Mary so she can confirm that the doll was a gift. Cheever finds a needle in the doll, which he takes as proof of Elizabeth’s guilt. Abigail fell on the floor screaming at dinner and pulled a needle out of her stomach, claiming that Elizabeth’s familiar spirit stabbed her. Mary and Elizabeth return, and ess compass Mary admits she made the doll in court while Abigail was sitting next to her.

John Proctor thinks that this makes it pretty clear that Abigail is lying, but it’s not enough for Hale to discount the “proof.” Hale warns Mary that she’s making severe accusations against Abigail. Proctor is fed up with the angiosperms need why?, court’s blind trust in Abigail and the other accusers. He rips up the arrest warrant and ess compass tells everyone to leave. Elizabeth sees that there is no way out of the current situation and agrees to go with the services, marshal to avoid a scene. John promises to bring her back soon and calls Hale a coward for being too passive about the situation. Hale counsels patience and reason so that they can get to the bottom of what’s really happening.

Everyone exits the house except Mary and John Proctor. Proctor tells Mary she must testify in ess compass court about the real story behind the doll. She is concerned about The Outsider in Hamlet, and Persuasion, by Jane, Abigail’s potential reaction. Mary knows about the affair, and she thinks Abigail will come clean about it and ruin Proctor’s reputation if Mary tries to discredit her. Ess Compass? Mary also believes that the court will turn against her if she tells the truth. Proctor is adamant that Elizabeth will not die for his mistakes with Abigail and starts getting aggressive with Mary to scare her into telling the truth. Mary continues to Successful Essay insist that she can’t testify because of the potential consequences. Does your target always get stabbed with the same implement that you used to poke the ess compass, voodoo doll?

And does that mean you can only The Outsider in Hamlet, Shakespeare and Persuasion, by Jane use voodoo dolls to give people you hate superficial puncture wounds? Luckily for Abigail, no one is in ess compass the right state of mind to care about how little sense all of ltd, this makes. This section lists the most important quotes in ess compass Act 2. I've written short explanations for each that elaborate on their significance. “I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart. I cannot speak but I am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though I come into a court when I come into this house!” (John Proctor pg. 52) In this quote, John Proctor criticizes his wife for continuing to tata consultancy mistrust him after he ended things with Abigail.

He claims that “an everlasting funeral marches round [her] heart,” meaning that she insists on continuing to mourn for the damage the affair did to ess compass their relationship rather than allowing him to angiosperms do not need for fertilization. why? repair it . Ess Compass? He feels that Elizabeth is constantly suspicious of Successful Globalization, him now, to the point where he can’t do anything without being judged. In fact, Elizabeth doesn’t show many signs of being overly judgmental of John (she’s actually doing pretty well considering he just had an ess compass affair with a teenager), and most of these issues are a projection of Migrant Workers for the 2022 World, his own guilt. “I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you.” (Elizabeth Proctor pg. 52) The real court in Salem is mirrored by a metaphorical court within the ess compass, mind of John Proctor. Here, Elizabeth points out that John is his own harshest judge. If anyone is judging him, it’s a mini-John Proctor with a judge wig banging a tiny gavel right on triolgy his heart strings. Since he's unable to forgive himself for the affair, he projects his guilt onto her even when she’s not acting particularly judgmental. Ess Compass? “I am amazed you do not see what weighty work we do.” (Mary Warren pg. 56) Mary uses “weighty” as a synonym for “important” or “vital.” She feels that she’s doing God’s work , and in Preparation 2022 she is given a sense of purpose and duty through her participation in the trials. Ess Compass? In a sense, the trials really are “weighty work” because they overhaul the entire community. They provide an outlet for the repressed resentments and angiosperms do not need for fertilization. jealousies that were simmering under the surface.

“Theology, sir, is ess compass, a fortress; no crack in the fortress may be accounted small.” (Reverend Hale pg. 64) This quote from Hale is a testament to the power of the church in this community and the perception of religion at the time. There is an “either you’re with us or you’re against us” mentality that encourages persecution of weak ties, anyone who deviates even slightly from accepted Christian behavior. Ess Compass? One misstep can derail a reputation completely, so everyone is eager to conform out of concerns for self-preservation. “There is a misty plot afoot so subtle we should be criminal to cling to old respects and ancient friendships. I have seen too many frightful proofs in court - the Devil is Qatar: in Preparation for the 2022 Cup Essay, alive in Salem, and ess compass we dare not quail to follow wherever the accusing finger points!” (Reverend Hale pg. 68) This quote from Hale sums up the atmosphere of Workers 2022 Cup Essay, hysteria that has emerged in ess compass Salem. Everyone is afraid to Successful question any of the accusers because that might mean falling for the Devil’s tricks. They feel that the consequences of doubting these accusations could be more dire than the risk of having some innocent people caught up in the mix. Reputation has been conquered by paranoia. Both Parris and Hale will cite different theological examples over the course of the play where someone who was once thought to be virtuous turned out to be evil.

In this case, it’s “Man, remember, until an hour before the ess compass, Devil fell, God thought him beautiful in by William Shakespeare and Persuasion, Austen Heaven” (Reverend Hale pg. 68). In the next act, Parris will say “You should surely know that Cain were an upright man, and yet he did kill Abel” (Reverend Parris pg. 85). On some occasions in the Bible, people who were thought to be good turned out to ess compass be bad. This shaky precedent is extrapolated to the current situation and gives the church leaders reason to mistrust even the most well-reputed citizens of Salem. “Why do you never wonder if Parris be innocent, or Abigail? Is the tata services ltd, accuser always holy now?

Were they born this morning as clean as God’s fingers? I’ll tell you what’s walking Salem - vengeance is walking Salem. We are what we always were in ess compass Salem, but now the little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law!” (John Proctor pg. 73) John is incredibly frustrated because the accusers are all taken at their word, and the accused are denied a fair opportunity to consultancy ltd defend themselves. He points out that many of these accusations are clearly driven by revenge. Though that desire for vengeance was always there within the people of Salem, it has only now begun to affect judicial processes and societal power structures in ess compass dramatic ways. “The little crazy children” are the accusers, mostly teenage girls who previously had no power in Salem. They are now “jangling the keys of the kingdom,” or testing their ability to provoke widespread chaos that favors their own agendas. “ Now Hell and heaven grapple on weak ties our backs, and all our old pretense is ess compass, ripped away - make your peace!

Peace. It is a providence, and no great change; we are only what we always were, but naked now.” (John Proctor pg. 76) This an aside John makes to himself at the end of Act 2. H e views the witch trials as an unveiling of the true nature of the people of tata services, Salem. No one has suddenly become vengeful, paranoid, and unjust - they were always like this underneath a shallow layer of decorum. Proctor has also been burdened by ess compass, the secret of for the, his affair with Abigail and the guilt he has about it. He sees himself as an immoral person, and he is relieved in a certain sense that he’s about to be exposed for the hypocrite he is so his sins will stop eating him up inside. John was referring to his two cats, Heaven and Hell. Metaphorical pet names were all the ess compass, rage in 17th century New England. The Crucible Act 2 Thematic Analysis.

This is a brief analysis of the most prevalent themes in Act 2. I'll come out angiosperms do not need for fertilization., with a more comprehensive thematic analysis for the whole play very soon! This act sees one of the most blatant examples of irony in ess compass the play. When John is asked to recite the ten commandments, the only one he forgets is the one most applicable to him, adultery (“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.). This shows how hard John is trying to repress his guilt. He hopes to leave the affair in the past and pretend it never happened, but he can't ignore the impact it has had on his relationship with Elizabeth, his sense of self-worth, and Abigail's psyche. Act II is when the angiosperms do not water for fertilization. why?, full extent of the hysteria in Salem becomes apparent.

Mary says that there are now not 14 but 39 people who have been thrown in jail on suspicion of witchcraft. The hysteria has been heightened by several confessions which seem to confirm the existence of an ess compass evil witchy plot. Qatar: In Preparation 2022 Cup Essay? People are told they will be executed if they refuse to confess, so obviously false confessions abound. The authorities and citizens of the ess compass, town are so scared of the possibility that these coerced confessions could be the truth that they ignore any logical objections to the proceedings (I have seen too many frightful proofs in court - the Devil is The Outsider in Hamlet, by William and Persuasion, Austen, alive in Salem, and ess compass we dare not quail to follow wherever the accusing finger points! Hale pg. 68).

They instead continue to push for angiosperms water why?, more confessions, which are then counted as “evidence” of a grand Satanic plot. Anyone who doubts the existence of this plot is brought under suspicion. When the poppet is discovered in Elizabeth’s possession, it is taken as concrete proof that she’s involved in ess compass witchcraft. Elizabeth's side of the story immediately becomes virtually irrelevant because Abigail’s testimony is consultancy, much scarier and more dramatic: She sat to dinner in Reverend Parris's house tonight, and without word nor warnin' she falls to the floor. Like a struck beast, he says, and screamed a scream that a bull would weep to hear. And he goes to save her, and, stuck two inches in the flesh of ess compass, her belly, he draw a needle out. (Cheever pg. 71).

The idea that a witch's familiar spirit could be going around stabbing people willy-nilly is in Hamlet,, too horrifying for people who genuinely believe in witchcraft to give Elizabeth the benefit of the doubt. Everyone severely underestimates Abigail's ambition and ess compass deviousness. Goody Good, an old beggar woman, is one of the first to be accused because she is The Outsider in Hamlet, Shakespeare and Persuasion, by Jane, already held in such low regard. It’s easy for respectable citizens to ess compass accept that she’s in Globalization league with the ess compass, Devil because she is an other in Salem, just like Tituba. Elizabeth knows that Abigail has it in for her because there's no other reason she would take the risk of accusing a farmer’s wife with a solid reputation. Elizabeth is an upstanding member of the community, whereas other women who have been accused were already at Successful the bottom of the totem pole. Elizabeth knows that her high status still affords her some credibility, but this is the point at which the value of reputation in Salem starts to butt heads with the power of ess compass, hysteria and fear to tata consultancy ltd sway people’s opinions (and vengeance to ess compass dictate their actions). Weak Ties? In this act it is ess compass, also revealed that Rebecca Nurse has been accused, a woman whose character was previously thought to be unimpeachable. This is services, taken as evidence that things are really getting out of ess compass, control (if Rebecca Nurse be tainted, then nothing's left to Qatar: Migrant in Preparation for the 2022 World stop the whole green world from burning. Hale pg.

67) , but still people hesitate to discredit the accusers out of fear for ess compass, their own reputations. In Act 2, we see that Mary Warren has been given a new sense of her own power through the value placed on her testimony in court. Elizabeth notes that Mary's demeanor, previously very meek, is now like that of “the daughter of a prince” (pg. 50). Mary has never felt like she was a part of something significant like this before, which likely adds to her conviction that the people she's accusing are truly witches. Mary and Globalization the other girls are riding on a high of attention and respect from powerful people in the community, so they are especially motivated to stick to ess compass their stories (and even genuinely believe their own lies).

At this point, Abigail has gone from a nobody to tata consultancy ltd (unofficially) one of the ess compass, most powerful people in Salem. It would be incredibly difficult for her to go back on her accusations now. Abigail’s low status in normal times ironically gives her a great deal of tata consultancy ltd, power in her current situation. Ess Compass? No one thinks she’s smart or devious enough to make up all these insane stories, so she is taken at her word. In the words of John Proctor, “the little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom” (pg.

73). Need For Fertilization.? This theme is ess compass, prominent in the dynamic between John and angiosperms need for fertilization. Elizabeth. John is ess compass, frustrated with Elizabeth because she still doesn’t fully trust him, but he’s really projecting his internal guilt about ltd, his affair with Abigail onto her. John gets worked up because he’s angry at ess compass himself for essentially setting these accusations in motion against The Outsider in Hamlet, Austen, his wife. He’s frustrated that he hasn’t been allowed to leave the affair behind him and hates that he now has to face up to ess compass real consequences. He underestimated Abigail and is now paying the price.

John’s guilt is a huge thematic undercurrent throughout the play, as we will see to an even greater extent in the next two acts. Even before his arrest (spoiler alert), John is a prisoner of his own guilt. He kinda deserves it, tbh. The Crucible Act 2 Summary Conclusion. In Act 2, the situation in Salem goes from Qatar: Workers in Preparation 2022 World worrisome to straight up horrifying. It becomes clear just how far the characters are willing to go to ess compass protect themselves against the town's burgeoning hysteria (even if it means setting others on a path to the gallows). Let's recap the most important events: Elizabeth informs John that more people have been arrested, and he needs to go to Salem to tell the court that Abigail is tata consultancy, a fraud. Ess Compass? Mary returns from Salem after participating in the trials and gives Elizabeth a ragdoll she made in court. Mary tells the Proctors that Elizabeth was mentioned briefly, but the accusations were dismissed thanks to Mary's favorable testimony.

Elizabeth knows Abigail will continue to accuse her until something sticks, and she tells John he has to go directly to Abigail and tell her that they're NEVER gonna be a thing. The Outsider Shakespeare? Hale warily questions the Proctors about their skimpy church attendance, and John tells him Abigail is a fraud. Hale has fleeting doubts about the legitimacy of the ess compass, girls' accusations. Francis Nurse and Giles Corey come to the house and say that their wives have been arrested. The Outsider By William And Persuasion,? Then, Ezekiel Cheever and ess compass Marshal Herrick arrive with a warrant for Qatar: Migrant in Preparation for the 2022 Cup Essay, Elizabeth's arrest. They find a needle in the doll Mary gave Elizabeth that corresponds to the needle that Elizabeth's familiar spirit supposedly used to stab Abigail. Elizabeth goes with them peacefully after realizing she can't prove her innocence. John angrily insists that Mary must tell the court Abigail is lying. Mary says she's too scared of the consequences and doesn't think she can do it. This is ess compass, all a set-up for Migrant Workers World Cup Essay, the heightened drama of Act 3. John Proctor is prepared to tell the whole truth about ess compass, Abigail to The Outsider in Hamlet, by Jane Austen save his wife and the rest of the accused, but will that be enough to stem the tide of witch-related hysteria? Hint: no.

But you're about to find out how it can be made much more straightforward , interesting and effective . Essay! Oh, and likely to gain you a significantly higher grade, too! So that's something to feel, well. just a little bit excited about! It's important to understand one thing before we start: unlike a maths or science question, an English essay question has no single 'correct' answer. You can breathe easy on that one. It's just not like that. In an English essay there is no one 'answer' and nothing to 'prove'.

That isn't to say there aren't wrong answers - there are. These are those based on 'mis-readings' of your texts. But what your teacher or examiner wants is a reasonable, informed, explained and well-supported view . In a nutshell, that's it. An essay requires this from you: a succinct opening in which you give an ess compass, overview of your response to the essay question. This is a kind of 'super-condensed' response that sums up your whole response in a line or two. you can add to the opening sentences, a very brief explanation of wh at aspects of the text brought you to this view . If you can give, say, four - six aspects, then you are setting out the consultancy services ltd, coming structure of your essay . There is ess compass no better way to begin an essay than like this. Consultancy! From this point on you will never be left scratching your head wondering what to write next. the remainder of the ess compass, essay is merely a series of PEE paragraphs that, point by point, argue the case for what you have just stated.

Each point (P) needs its own paragraph and to have support (E) from the text (either a quotation, or an need water why?, explanation of some aspect of form or structure ) along with with an explanation (E) of how the text brought you to ess compass such a view, the for the, effects it created, the methods the author used to create the effects and, finally, its relevance to the text, that is, the author's purposes . That's it. Done and ess compass dusted! More detail below if needed. The secret of a good essay? Make it an argument ! An effective essay is a piece of angiosperms why?, writing that makes a strong and well-supported case for a stated viewpoint . The view it makes the case for ess compass, is your response to the essay title or question . Aeschylus! You'll have arrived at ess compass after a couple of readings of the tata consultancy, text, more if a poem, and one of which will be a so-called 'close-reading' when you annotate the text carefully in line with whatever the essay question asks, seeking out support as quotations or explanations of useful effects created by form and structure . So your essay starts with a clear statement of your opinion . It could be something like, as an example: 'Shakespeare's theme of violence in Romeo and Juliet is ess compass shown especially effectively through the opening scene, as well as through the characters of Mercutio and Tybalt and an analysis of these three dramatic aspects will form the basis of this essay.' The opening overview is sometimes called a thesis statement . In Hamlet, By William Shakespeare And Persuasion, By Jane! The 'thesis' is your response, i.e. the heart of your 'argument'. It's what the essay goes on to explain and support to show that it is a view that is well - considered, based on the text and reasonable to hold . Essays are about opinions, not facts.

This point is ess compass crucial to take on board. Weak Ties! There is never a straightforward right answer to an essay q uestion or title. There are wrong answers, of ess compass, course - caused through, for example, misinterpreting the text; but the 'answer' to an essay question will always be a point of ltd, view . Essays deal in opinions, not facts . This is why your teacher is looking to read your views and why you have come to think in this particular way. How do you arrive at a 'thesis' or overview? This is the tough part - there's no getting away from that.

Not least, this is because it puts to ess compass the test your knowledge of the text and your understanding of the essay title or question . The good news is that when it's done and done well, the remainder of the essay becomes much more straightforward and triolgy far more interesting to write, perhaps even a little exciting! The Outline Structure for an Effective Essay. As already stated above, this first paragraph needs to ess compass open with a clearly stated summary of your whole 'answer' along with an equally brief summary of the aspects of the Successful Essay, text you'll be analysing to show your stated view is sound . It is these early sentences that provide the major 'signposts' that give your essay and its general direction. Importantly, you need to set a confident tone early on in the essay. This can be done by adding in a very few details to show you've grasped the ess compass, text's big picture . This should be a brief comment (brevity is everything in the opening paragraph) on the major details of the story (poem or whatever) along with an equally brief statement of any relevant context , (that is the situation you feel brought the writer to want to write their text, including key aspects of their social , cultural and triolgy literary contexts ). This will, though, always need to be focused on the needs of the essay question . Notice how you are constantly seeking to ess compass avoid waffle and generalised 'bolted on' comments ; instead, you need to keep all you write tightly focused on the needs of the essay title or question. This is the bulk of the essay.

It is a series of paragraphs each introduced with a new clear important and wholly relevant point . Sadly, it's all too easy to open a in weak ties, a way that inspires little confidence and which drifts from the essay question or argument. Avoid this by opening each and every paragraph in a way that is clearly and directly developing the ess compass, essay's 'answer' or argument . If you started by stating the aeschylus triolgy, four-six aspects you'll be covering in your essay, then you'll have no difficulty knowing what to write in these body paragraphs. This is where you restate, in ess compass, a different form, your opening argument and give a brief list of the major points you have made along with a comment about the wider implications and relevance of Qatar: Workers Cup Essay, what you have found. It will help to think back to the imaginary classroom situation. What would follow on from the highly condensed 'answer' you gave to your teacher?

Your teacher might say, 'Good, that's a fair view to hold - but why do you think that? Show me from the text itself what made you think that way.' In the written essay, you'll need to be providing a whole lot more 'evidence' mainly in the form of ess compass, quotations each one itself supported by a commentary derived from an analysis of the quotation's literary and linguistic content . However, with a central and guiding argument starting off and flowing through the Essay, entire essay, it now becomes much easier to ess compass search the ltd, text for aspects and quotations that will provide good quality evidence to support the essay's points. Each point and supporting quotation needs to ess compass be followed by an analysis and comment . Some teachers call this the P.E.E. ( point example explanation ) or P.Q.C. Do Not Need Why?! ( point quotation comment ) system. This is needed to explain how and why the aspect of the text or the quotation 'works' within the context of the essay question and the originally stated argument. Certain key questions need to be answered concerning each quotation used: What techniques have been used to make the language of the quotation effective? This means discussing the writer's methods , e.g. through the ess compass, creation of realistic dialogue; the use of an angiosperms do not need for fertilization., effective metaphor; through vivid description; onomatopoeia; alliteration; effective stage directions, etc.

How does the method used affect the reader's understanding of the text and ess compass its themes (e.g. Weak Ties! 'the effect of this passage is to create a sense of really being there for the reader. ')? Why was this method used (i.e. what was the writer's purpose )? E.g. 'At this point on the story the author wants to gain the reader's attention in order to begin exploring the ess compass, overall theme of injustice. ' MARK GRABBING TIP No. 1! Begin all of your paragraphs in such a way that it is absolutely clear you are focused on the essay question and its requirements, thus building up your overall argument. This will keep the essay on track and avoid the plague of poor essays: wandering, digression and waffle! What if your essay title isn't in the form of a question? When considered as a question, you will often find it is easier to generate that all-important single main point of view to it - the services, main idea upon ess compass which you will then base the remainder of your essay . Here is an services, example of ess compass, a main idea succinctly stated (i.e. thesis statement ) that could be used to create an argument essay from the above question:

The remainder of this - or any other - essay must then be no more than a linked series of points with each point explained , developed and Essay supported in a paragraph of its own . These points must all be directly related to the main idea you have already explained in the opening paragraph, which itself is your response to the essay title or question. Remember that each point - each paragraph - must set out to explain , develop and support some aspect of your over-riding main idea and nothing more . In this example, the paragraph that follows the opening paragraph - the first of what is ess compass called the Qatar: Cup Essay, body paragraphs of your essay - could be based on the point that the theme of ess compass, ambition is shown through what Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are given by Shakespeare to say and do in Act One of the play. The third paragraph of your essay - its second body paragraph - might then explore, develop and support how the theme of ambition is weak ties shown through these two characters in some part of Act 2, and so on. Below you'll find lots more detail and ideas for writing an effective essay but with luck, the above will have given you the basic idea. Aim to ess compass 'integrate' words or phrases from the text you are studying directly into your own sentences (still using quotation marks, of course). Don't overdo this effective technique, but used sparingly, this use of Successful, 'embedded' quotations can help create a very impressive style, one that suggests you have a good grasp of the text and the essay question. Here are some examples of ess compass, how to angiosperms do not water why? use embedded quotations. The first is from the opening of John Steinbeck's novel, 'Of Mice and Men': 'Small and quick' George is presented by Steinbeck as a character in complete contrast to his friend, the lumbering and 'shapeless' Lennie. Here is a similarly embedded quotation from J B Priestley's 'An Inspector Calls':

As the Inspector says, 'We don't live alone' and ess compass this is an important message Priestley gives his audience. Finally, see how this can be done using John Agard's poem, 'Half-Caste': Perhaps Agard also wants his reader to 'come back tomorrow' with a different attitude towards those they might feel are in any way different from themselves. MORE TIPS AND MORE DETAIL! Essays take a great deal of effort and time and so deserve careful preparation. T he most common failing examiners find is a lack of understanding of the text on which the weak ties, essay is based. This is to take the road signpos ted 'Failure'. But you're heading elsewhere. So. get to know your text well.

You won't succeed if you don't! I f you struggle with the text, read it through again with a study guide to hand. Also, talk the text over ess compass, with friends or your teacher. Angiosperms Do Not Need! There is more help with specific texts here . Many essay writers fail to create an initial main viewpoint or drift from ess compass this single focus. This loses marks as it leads to waffle , vagueness and generalisation . As you've read above, another common pitfall is to focus too much on the surface features of the text you are writing about. Angiosperms Do Not Water! This happens when you write at length about the meaning of the text, i.e. by telling what happens in it. In effect, all you are doing when you do this is to ess compass retell the aeschylus, story of the text. Aim only to choose quotations that contain important elements in them that will allow you to services discuss in depth aspects of, for example, their literary style , language or structure. Discuss, too, how the quotation works both at the point it occurs and as a contribution to the whole , i.e. the way it helps the writer achieve his or her purpose . This means you need to discuss aspects of the angiosperms do not need, quotation such as its effectiveness - which means discussing aspects of ess compass, language , structure and style . 1. Angiosperms Do Not Water For Fertilization.! DEVELOP A STRONG INITIAL FOCUS FOR YOUR ESSAY. The word 'essay' comes from a French word meaning 'attempt': your essay is your attempt to argue for your point of view , a view that when succinctly expressed is ess compass called a thesis statement . This 'thesis statement' needs to be an idea you developed based on an interpretation of whatever aspect of the text is asked in the essay question. Interpretation means considering how a text operates at Qatar: in Preparation 2022 World different levels ; it is your interpretation of the text that will be at the heart of the essay: an interpretation that must supports the overall thesis statement. 2. FIND SOLID SUPPORT FOR YOUR VIEWPOINT. You will need to search through the ess compass, text and note down a series of aspects and quotations that can be used to support the overall view you have developed.

Use 'post-it notes' to weak ties help with this or write the aspects/quotations down separately. Choose aspects or quotations that you can analyse successfully for ess compass, the methods used , effects created and purpose intended . 3. WRITE AN EFFECTIVE OPENING PARAGRAPH. Use your introductory paragraph to state your point of view , i.e. your thesis statement. The purpose of your opening paragraph is to weak ties make clear your thesis statement - response to the essay question: that is, to explain the focus of your argument - your main idea or point of view. Stated clearly at ess compass the opening to your essay, this shows how you intend to answer the essay question and what general direction your essay will take. Following your thesis statement, it's a good idea to add a little more detail that acts to 'preview' each of the major points that you will cover in the body of the essay. This opening paragraph will then act to Migrant for the World show - succinctly - where you stand regarding the questions and how you intend to answer it. Importantly, in the opening paragraph of your essay you will also need to write an overview of the text, one that gives a succinct summary of the ' big picture ' of the text; importantly, too, of course, this must be focused on the requirements of the essay question. Giving a succinct account of the big picture of the text in the opening paragraph will show that you have engaged with and ess compass digested the detail of three key aspects of the aeschylus triolgy, essay: the essay question, the text and its author - perhaps also, a brief account of the author's context . Giving an overview suggests a confident approach and is a hallmark of the best essays. TIP: It is always impressive to incorporate into your own sentences, using quotation marks of course, a short suitable quotation taken from the text.

Some teachers call this using embedded quotations. Keep all references to the biographical background of the author and any aspects of ess compass, his or her context entirely relevant to the essay question and - brief! Remember that this is not a history or a sociology essay so very few marks are awarded for this kind of Qatar: Workers in Preparation 2022 World Cup Essay, background information (although that does not mean it might not be useful). The majority of ess compass, marks in an English essay are awarded for the quality of analysis and interpretation you show - that is, an awareness of the author's uses of the English language and literary uses of this. If your essay title does concern aspects of context try hard to discuss context by deriving your comments from quotations rather than by weak ties merely discussing aspects of ess compass, context; in Successful, other words allow the text to introduce the ess compass, context.

TIP: avoid making simplistic and irrelevant value judgments of the text or its author. Saying that Shakespeare is 'a wonderful author' or that you think 'Of Mice and Men' is 'really good' will gain no marks whatsoever - this is no more than a kind of waffle that fills space with empty words that add nothing useful to do not water your essay. 4. USE THE REMAINING PARAGRAPHS EFFECTIVELY. Follow the opening paragraph with a number of paragraphs that form the 'body' of the essay. Each of these paragraphs are there purely to expand on and support your originally stated overall viewpoint. Having stated your main idea in ess compass, your opening paragraph, now you need explore this, develop it and provide support from the text for this.

In the Cup Essay, essay's body paragraphs your aim is to: follow the ess compass, analysis system called P.E.E. By William And Persuasion, By Jane Austen! or P.Q.C. Ess Compass! For more on this see here ; work through the text's structure logically and, highlighting via the use of quotations, explain how these led you to develop your point of aeschylus triolgy, view; comment on how the ess compass, language of each of these parts led you to form your interpretation: why did the author choose this particular type of language to make this point in this way? How does it help a) the audience and b) the writer's purpose or theme ? discuss how this individual part of the text forms a useful structural part of the aeschylus triolgy, text by ess compass leading the reader towards an overall understanding of the themes, messages or purposes of the weak ties, text; CRUCIALLY. each paragraph needs to develop a separate and ess compass individual point - one that will help to show how different parts and aspects of the text helped you develop your interpretation and tata services ltd viewpoint (this is the ess compass, POINT part of P.E.E.); A useful tip is to open each paragraph with a topic sentence . This is a sentence that clearly makes a point that is Successful Globalization developing your argument - your answer to ess compass the essay question - and, because it is, therefore, clearly focused on the essay question, it will keep your writing on track;

Always aim to provide support for each of the points you make by referring directly to the text (this is the angiosperms do not for fertilization., EXAMPLE part of P.E.E.). You normally do this by quoting briefly from a relevant part of the text but you might choose to describe an ess compass, event. It's very important NOT to write a long description of WHAT happens. If you do you are merely 'retelling the by William by Jane Austen, story' - this loses many marks. In a play you also lose marks if you do not discuss aspects of the staging and stage action. You will need to follow each quotation with an explanation of and a discussion on aspects of the language the author used in ess compass, the quotation; this means discussing, for example, how aspects of the quotations literary, poetic or dramatic language works, including mentioning the method the writer used, the effect the language creates and the reasons this might have been done (this is the Successful Essay, EXPLAIN part of ess compass, P.E.E).

You should also aim to show how the quotation helped you develop your overall interpretation of the text (this is also the The Outsider in Hamlet, Austen, EXPLAIN part of P.E.E). 5. CREATE A LOGICAL STRUCTURE. Always work in a clear way through the text, from beginning to ess compass end. Avoid starting your essay by discussing a point that occurs half way through your text: ALWAYS begin at the beginning! Many students begin discussing a text half way through or even near the end then go back to an earlier point.

This ignores the Shakespeare by Jane, work the writer puts in to develop an effective structure to their text - and loses marks! 6. CONCLUDE EFFECTIVELY. The conclusion to ess compass an essay is tata consultancy services important but causes problems for many students. Ess Compass! It should leave your reader with a pleasant and Successful Globalization logical sense of 'closure' - a 'wrapping up' of the main ideas behind the ess compass, essay . 1. Do Not Water Why?! Re-state in a different form (using rather different words) your opening argument. 2. Ess Compass! Now bring together your main points (again, avoiding simple repetition of the same words): list or summarise the main points from the preceding paragraphs (use the topic sentences from each paragraph to give you an weak ties, idea). 3. End by ess compass identifying some of the Successful Globalization, wider implications and relevance that arise from what you have found and explored. The conclusion should consist of just a few sentences but these will need to be made to sound convincing and ess compass authoritative . It's crucial to triolgy keep the conclusion brief and to ess compass the point and, above all else, to introduce no new material at all. ALWAYS WRITE ANALYTICALLY , NEVER DESCRIPTIVELY. Here is an example of how many students go wrong; don't worry, you won't - but this is a very common mistake:

In William Shakespeare's play, 'Romeo and Juliet', these are the first two lines of the consultancy ltd, 'Prologue' as spoken by 'The Chorus': 'Two households, both alike in ess compass, dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene. ' What follows is in Preparation for the 2022 World Cup Essay a typical 'retelling': an 'overview' or 'translation' that gains no marks : 'Here, Shakespeare is saying that the play is set in Verona where there are two dignified families.' Compare the above 'description' with this analytical and insightful interpretation : 'The opening lines of the ess compass, Prologue are important because they paint a picture for the audience of what could and should be - fairness and Qatar: Migrant Workers in Preparation 2022 World dignity. These words set up a powerful contrast to what is: the violence, hatred and bloodshed shown in the coming scene. It will be against this violent backdrop that the pure love of Romeo and Juliet will have to struggle.' Which approach and ess compass style would gain the higher mark? STUCK FOR WHAT TO WRITE ABOUT? THERE ARE FOUR KEY ASPECTS THAT APPLY TO ALL TEXTS AND WHICH SHOULD FORM THE BASIS OF ANY LITERATURE ESSAY.

FORM, CONTENT, STRUCTURE AND STYLE. This is so very often ignored despite the fact that it provides the basis for the very best essays because it provides a subtle response. And subtlety always receives the consultancy services ltd, highest marks ! When you write about a text at the level of its form , you analyse how aspects of it other than the ess compass, meaning of its language have been used by the writer in in Hamlet, Shakespeare and Persuasion, Austen, important and ess compass effective ways. To give you an idea of the importance of form to a text, you yourself make use of the form of language when you speak loudly or softly , or when you chat or text a friend and use CAPS LOCK. Also, when you create short or long sentences or paragraphs you are affecting the look - the form - of your writing. This, albeit subtly, affects the way the writing is received and interpreted.

A novelist makes use of form by writing in Qatar: Migrant Workers for the 2022 Cup Essay, sentences and paragraphs of varying lengths (you can imagine the effect a very short sentence, or a one-line paragraph, for example). The use of dialogue (spoken words shown inside speech marks) is also an effective use of form, as is the use of underlining , bold or italics - or, in non-fiction texts, the inclusion of bullet points or sections. Poets are acutely aware of and very creative with the use of ess compass, form. Weak Ties! A poet makes use of form, for example, by consciously splitting up sentences into the lines of poetry . This allows the ess compass, poet to exaggerate a particular word by consultancy ltd placing it at ess compass the end of a line, or by rhyming it with a similar sounding word. A non-fiction writer makes use of form by weak ties using layout and appearance and by adding illustrations and ess compass photographs , and so on. All writers use form by using patterns of sound , such as by using alliteration , rhyme , rhythm , onomatopoeia , assonance and aeschylus triolgy so on. A playwright, of course, uses form very differently.

When your essay concerns a play, therefore, you'll definitely be losing marks if you ignore aspects of form. In a play, much of the 'meaning' is created not from language but from ess compass what you see happening on the stage - the staging and stage action. This includes not just what the actors do but what they wear , where they stand and so on triolgy, - all potentially important formal aspects of the ess compass, play that should find their way onto your essay. Form is always worthy of comment when (but only when ) if it adds usefully to the meaning, i.e. the content of a text. Every word and phrase has a literal meaning . This is in Hamlet, Shakespeare by Jane Austen its basic dictionary meaning. Ess Compass! It's sometimes called a word's denotation . E.g. 'In this story, the author's detailed description of darkness denotes the coming on of a storm'. This is a way of angiosperms do not for fertilization. why?, 'playing' around with a word's meaning that makes writing more vivid , emotional and interesting . Words and ess compass phrases can be used differently from their literal context and given what is called a connotation . Using connotation or figurative language , a writer can introduce layers of meaning - especially emotional meaning (don't forget that many words can create both meaning and feeling ). The most common way this is done is to use a word not for its literal meaning but for its metaphorical or figurative meaning. Another way is to The Outsider in Hamlet, use a word that acts as symbolically and represents something very different from its literal meaning.

E.g. 'As well as suggesting the coming of ess compass, a storm, the darkness also acts to suggest a metaphorical darkness is taking over the character's mind. In this way the darkness seems to be symbolising a kind of evil'. Using a pun - a witty play on need for fertilization. why?, words - is ess compass another way that meaning can be played with in an interesting way. Punning works because some words, in a certain context, can have an ambiguous meaning - two possible meanings - one of which might be humorous. Irony is a key way that writers use to create layers of angiosperms do not need for fertilization., meaning. Sarcasm is irony, but this is ess compass a spoken form of irony that is angiosperms water intended to hurt someone's feelings by ridiculing some aspect of them. Ess Compass! It's a crude, easy kind of irony not really subtle enough for writing. Irony is usually subtle , sophisticated , edgy and witty ; an altogether more intelligent use of language.

But irony can also be difficult to recognise - yet it is probably true to say that irony is one of the most common means by which a sophisticated writer creates layers of meaning in a text . Irony works because when it is recognised, it engages the reader very much more closely with the text. This is because, rather like solving a puzzle, there is a real enjoyment and satisfaction in Globalization, unpicking the various levels of meaning created by ess compass the irony. Creating an 'ironic tone of voice' in writing is much harder than in Migrant Workers in Preparation for the, speech because the original sound of voice and ess compass facial expression or body language of the do not need for fertilization. why?, speaker are absent. To create an ironic tone (or any tone, for that matter), words have to be chosen with great care. It is a key reading skill to be able to detect this as it tells you what attitude the writer is taking towards their subject matter. An example of irony occurs in an old story by O. Henry called 'The Gift of the Magi'. This story of poor young lovers ends with the boyfriend selling the one thing he owns of value, his pocket watch, in order to buy his girlfriend an ess compass, expensive hair comb; equally secretly, she has all of her long hair cut off to sell to a wig maker so she can afford to Successful Globalization buy him. a chain for his watch. Structure is the way a writer consciously 'shapes' a piece of writing in an attempt to make it as effective as possible for their audience and their purpose. It is important to comment on ess compass, the structure of a text, e.g. 'The way the author slowly builds up the tension throughout this chapter helps create a feeling of weak ties, real excitement and mystery'. Style is the way a writer or speaker consciously chooses language and language features to suit a particular audience to achieve a specific purpose . When you aim to convince your mum that Friday's party cannot be missed, you will consciously adapt your style to one that is more emotional and persuasive! Some famous writers have a particular style of their own that is quickly recognisable.

John Steinbeck, Charles Dickens and William Wordsworth are three such writers - here, a writer's individual style is sometimes referred to as the writer's 'voice'. Your primary job when analysing and discussing a text is to comment on its style - on what are called the stylistic or language choices its writer has made, especially those that seem to you to ess compass have been chosen to create a particular effect to achieve a certain purpose. Services Ltd! So. if you are commenting on the form and content of a writer's language, you are commenting on the writer's style . COMPARING TWO OR MORE TEXTS. Even though it's a central part of the mark scheme, and always made clear in the essay question or title, each year many students still manage to write their comparison exam answer or coursework essay and forget to compare and contrast the ess compass, texts . Aside from not knowing the texts sufficiently well, failing to Successful Globalization compare and ess compass contrast is the number one reason marks are lost in this kind of essay. When writing about more than one text, your opening paragraph should be used to give the The Outsider by William and Persuasion, Austen, briefest details of ess compass, each text (i.e. your writing needs to be succinct !). This will mean being even more careful and sparing when you write an overview of each text, in which you give the Qatar: Workers for the World, big picture . There are two methods you can consider using when comparing texts: 1) Write about the first text fully before moving on ess compass, to the second - still using the techniques outlined above; but when you go on to write about the second text, you must compare and contrast it with the first. 2) Alternatively, and this makes the most sense when thinking about the Qatar: for the 2022 World Cup Essay, argument essay, you write about both texts as you proceed . This allows you still, as shown above, to ess compass create a central argument , one in which examples to support the points are taken from Migrant in Preparation one or both texts as relevant to the point.

This second method is the more complex and sophisticated of the two.
